The Office of Professional Development is pleased to bring you the 2023 Summer Technology Institute! These technology specific workshops are being offered during the summer to give you the opportunity to expand your knowledge, acquire new skills related to technological advancement, and leave you feeling better prepared when the busy Fall semester begins.
These workshops are open to all full-time and adjunct faculty, administrators, classified & confidential staff, college assistants & short-term employees

Learn the most common design elements for accessible PDF creation as well as built in remediation and fix-it tools that will help you create or remediate accessible PDF documents
Are you unwittingly creating roadblocks to learning for some of your students? The Building Accessible Content for Online Teaching course will help you develop a foundation of expertise by learning simple ways to create accessible content.
This training will take place in Canvas and run for one week, from Monday, June 12 - Sunday, June 18, 2023. You may access the module content to complete at your own pace throughout the week. The course will include a combination of asynchronous and synchronous support provided by our instructional designer Helen Graves, who will facilitate this training. On Friday, June 16, Helen will offer an open Office Hour (via Zoom) to give you hands-on guidance for any questions. Successful participants will complete a brief knowledge check and an "Accessibility Design Challenge" to demonstrate their mastery of the accessibility basics covered in the course. Two hours of Flex credit will be awarded for successful course completion.

Did you know Canvas recently released a tool that lets you create customized icons that can be reused throughout your courses? The Canvas Icon Maker is integrated into the Rich Content Editor, making it easy to create a new icon or access existing ones while you are editing pages, assignments, quizzes, or discussions. In this workshop, you will learn how to create icons using the Icon Maker, and youâll receive access to template images that can be used to create your own customized icons for your courses. Youâll also have time to practice using the new tool and explore ideas for using icons in your online courses.
