Introduction

I am Dr. Mansour Rostami, teaching Anatomy/Physiology/Biology and Pathology for more than 20 years. I will be your instructor this semester.

Human physiology is my favorite subject. I think I can relate to human physiology more than any other, because of my clinical background that it helps me to relay relay information to my students using clinical examples.

I know for fact that physiology is a tricky subject. In order for my student to succeed, I have created a diverse grading criteria that includes several types of activities and assignments to help students who might be strong in one thing and not the other. Punctuality and good time management is primary key to success in my class.

You can contact me by email:

Course Description

Our LAB class is scheduled for Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In Person. All recorded lectures will be online on Canvas.

I will have announcements about this later. Please plan on being "in class" during lab times.

There will be a much more detailed explanation of this for you in one of the first Modules in Canvas.

What to Expect in this Course

  • Online/remote classes require strong organizational skills and self-discipline and your success depends on your continuous work from day one. Students should plan to spend at least 8 hours per lecture on coursework, daily visit the Canvas pages to check on discussions, review the learning modules and complete weekly online homework assignments. Do not fall behind!
  • In order to not fall behind you must start early and even before class start.
  • For this course, you must have an email address, regular access to reliable internet connection, a web browser, a computer with a webcam, and a word-processing program such as Microsoft Word.
  • Physiology is a rigorous course that needs strong anatomy background and hard work.
  • It is important to know the structure (anatomy) first, before you start learning the function (physiology) of each organ system. Since we won't have time to go over anatomy, It is a good idea to review your biology and anatomy notes before the course starts.
  • Understanding the processes is much more effective than memorizing.
  • After second week, You will need to purchase the McGraw-Hill Education Smart Connect access code in order to complete your online homework and virtual lab experiments.
  • All exams will be administered online. Exams will be open for up to 24 hours and will be proctored by Proctorio. For more information refer to the course syllabus.
  • It is impertaive to make up your mind if you are comfortable with proctored online exams and drop the course if  you are not.
  • You must have a computer or lap top with a working webcam and microphone in order to take the exams.
  • This class uses a combination of synchronous and asynchronous method. It means we will meet online once a week during the regular class hours that are posted on the official schedule. However, all material will be available on CANVAS. Lectures will be pre-recorded on ConferZoom. Attendance of the live meetings is mandatory for two weeks and anytime after that I will announce. Anyway, according to the department chair we have to have live meetings.
