Introduction
Hello and welcome to ESL 070. This is a noncredit class and we will concentrate on improving your reading, writing, and grammar. I want to make this a collaborative class, so if you have topics that you would like to discuss, please let me know, so that we can include them in our class.
Course Description
We will be meeting live, three mornings a week using Zoom. We will go over writing Descriptive Paragraphs, Narrative Paragraphs, Cause and Effect Paragraphs, and Compare and Contrast Paragraphs during our eight weeks together. Some grammar points we will go over include Appositives, Common Quantifiers, Conditionals, and Relative Clauses. It's a lot easier than it sounds. So please join us!
What to Expect in this Course
You will need a webcam, access to Canvas and Zoom, and ability to post assignments online. You will be writing paragraphs each week. Your final exam will include reading, writing, and grammar, but you will be able to complete it in one class period.
Types of Assessments
You will be posting to a Discussion Board each week. There are sometimes short quizzes too.

No textbook is required, I will provide all of the necessary information.

Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
