Introduction

Dear student,

   Greetings and welcome to the 2024 Fall Semester! I hope that you had a wonderful summer break, and that you were able to find some time to relax and connect with your family and friends. My name is Matthew Aivazian and I am very excited to be helping you best manage and succeed in this Trigonometry with Support course. I have been teaching this course for several years and I am very proud to be your instructor this fall semester. The fall semester offers great new opportunities for you to engage with faculty, participate in new initiatives and activities, and continue your academic journey at College of the Canyons. I encourage you to take advantage of many academic, professional, and social development opportunities that are available this fall semester at College of the Canyons.

Course Description

This is a sixteen-week course that starts on Monday, 08/19/2024 and ends on Wednesday, 12/04/2024. It is worth five credits. This means that you should spend about fifteen hours per week on doing weekly assignments, interacting with other students, attending scheduled weekly on-campus meetings, reading, and studying. The weekly on-campus lecture hours are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, 08:25 am-10:30 am, and the weekly on-campus lab hours are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:40 am-12:00 pm, at TBD. During the semester, we will be  covering chapters six through ten of the textbook, , by David Cohen, Theodore B. Lee, David Sklar, ISBN: 9780357686041

What to Expect in this Course

A computer and a reliable internet connection are required. The only electronic device allowed on an exam is a scientific calculator. During the semester, you will be assigned fourteen homework and will be given five tests and a final exam. Meanwhile, we will do in-class activities/assignments.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
