Introduction
Welcome to BIOSCI 205 short course. This is a hybrid class that begins February 6th-June 1st, 2023. This course will require an average of 12 hours per week, that includes lectures, discussion forums, group activities, and writing of laboratory reports. Lectures will be posted for online access and lab will meet on Mondays or Wednesdays from 1:00-4:05 PM on the Canyon Country campus and participation is mandatory.
Course Description
In this course, we will take the time to explore various systems throughout the body and learn the anatomical structures as well as the physiological mechanisms to maintain homeostasis. There will also be a laboratory component that will coinside with the particular system being studied.
Student Learning Outcome for Lecture: identify, describe, and draw the anatomical structures (organs, tissues, cells, cell products) for the sense organs, the endocrine system, the circulatory and cardiovascular systems, the lymphatic and immune systems, the respiratory system, the digestive system, the urinary system, and the male and female reproductive systems and evaluate the functions of each, describing the physiological mechanism by which each works to maintain health and homeostasis.
Student Learning Outcomes Laboratory material will be provided for the various systems. Name, identify, and evaluate the functions of pertinent anatomical structures (organs, tissues, cells, cell products) for each organ system studied.
What to Expect in this Course
In this course, you will be expected to:
~Be present and join group participation, discussion forums and be ready for in-person laboratory time.
~Have the ability to complete online lectures on an individual basis, or asynchronously prior to in-person laboratory time.
~Turn in assignments on time.
~Treat all students in a professional manner while always using proper etiquette.
Types of Assessments
Lecture Exams: There will be five lecture exams. They will not be cumulative. Exams will consist of multiple choice, fill-in questions, short answer questions and written answer questions worth variable points to bring the total to 100 points per exam. Scantrons will be needed for all of lecture exams. There will be no make ups for lecture exams!
Final Exam: There will be a cumulative final exam at the end of the semester. The final will consist of multiple choice and true/false questions. A scantron will be needed for the final. There will be no make ups for the final!
Lab Practicals: Lab practicals will consist of short answer fill-in questions based on the laboratory assignments performed. There are no make ups for the lab practicals.
Testing format: all exams will be given in-person.

You will need to have the required text book and laboratory manual to complete this class.
There are also technology requirements needed for this class. You must have regular or reliable access to the internet, that allows Google Chrome as the browser, and a word-processing program such as Microsoft Word.
You must have the ability to access to the Information Management System, Canvas, that is used for the College of the Canyons and is located on the website page.
